Introducing Takia’s Dream

moma-and-baby-001.JPG

Takia and Extreme Dream would like to present Takia’s Dream born on Thursday.  Mommy and baby are doing great and Dream is already holding court for adoring fans (market friends, family, neighbors and riding students are good to chew on).

Presenting Chile Acres Extreme Lunar_____?

Estrella’s New Colt

Estrella suprised us this morning with a lovely little colt!  Mother and baby are doing just great and he is already a quick baby.  He barely stumbled at all on his way to breakfast!  Here he is at just 1 hour old.  His father, Extreme Dream has been calling loudly to all of the other mares.  I assume he is proud of this cutie.

It is common practice to name a foal with both parent’s names in the new name of the baby.  Estrella always has her foals named with something celestial in the title and we always use “extreme” for our stallion.  We are open for suggestions to fill in the blank for this little guy.  Please leave your ideas in the comment section.

Bubbles would like to remind everyone that they should keep checking the site for new babies–kids and foals are a popping this month!

Tara celebrates First Birthday

Tara

At Chile Acres we have a daily reminder of the importance of Earth Day.  After all, that is what Earth Day is partly about–remembering and contemplating and renewing our committment to Mother Earth.  We have “Tara”.  Tara was born a year ago on Earth Day.  She is a Medicine Hat Pinto which is quite special.  This means she is wearing a bonnet or hat that is a darker spot on her head that includes her ears.  This was of importance to some of the Indigenous Peoples of the Great Plains.  In addition she is “wearing” symbolic markings of the 4 elements.  Her eyes are blue like water, she has black pigment or scorched markings for fire, her hair is white like clouds and that reminds us of air, and small islands of palamino markings are here and there like earth on the ocean.

Her mother is from the Sulpher Springs  protected herd of mustangs found on the Colorado Plateau.  Her father was a mustang too.  She is highly intelligent and remains aloof but friendly even after being imprinted at birth.  Horses each have personalities and she is exceptional!

So, as another Earth Day goes by we celebrate by spending time with our little Tara and remembering how connected and dependent we are to our Earth Mother. We reflect on our farm projects and how to do them smarter using less resources that are non-renewable and never using anything that contains harmful chemicals. We use herbal remedies as much as possible for ourselves and for any gardening and animal situations that arise.

Happy Birthday Tara!  This carrot is for you:)

Dulce and Red Graduate From Cowgirl Camp

red and wes

Wes Brown has been training horses for as long as he can remember.  He works tirelessy to bring out the best in each horse using kindness, humor and lots of patient training.  The horses respond well to him and come running when he whistles and brandishes horse cookies.  This is Red on her graduation day out at Mission Ranch in Bensen, Arizona, where Wes runs a large cattle ranch.  Red is small and had a hard time chasing cattle but gave Wes her all!  Now she is home and teaching little kids to ride and enjoying all of the carrots and attention.  Dulce will come home next week.

If you are interested in contacting Wes to help you with a horse just e-mail us or leave a comment and we will gladly give you his number.

Howdy everyone from cowgirl camp. The hombre on my back is Wes and he is a great cowboy. He hands out lots of horse cookies and has taught me the virtue of chasing cows. I’m liking it in Benson and really enjoyed the day the white stuff fell from the sky and made the pen sort of slick and cold. Red ate some of it and told me not to lick the hitching post. She was right! Gotta go–get along little doggies and all that stuff…

Bahar’s First Day Out

bahir-and-mom-on-first-day-out.jpg

Here is our Good Friday Night Baby and first foal of the Spring. His name is Bahar and he belongs to Pam–the other 1/2 of Barn Goddess. His daddy lives here at Chile Acres, Royal Zahar. Momma is shown here, Ulriqua, coaching him on good manners in the big old world.

Jutta the German Cowgirl Rides Again!

jutta-and-her-2nd-riding-lesson.JPGJutta is becoming an accomplished Cowgirl and learning to use her reins and leg pressure to guide DeeDee around some road cones this week.  Jutta came out all duded up–including boots that are made to boogie to Country Western Music. We don’t know if the people back home in Frankfurt, Germany will recognize her when she goes home!  This is one wild Grandma!  From the smile on her face, which really warms our hearts, we know she is having a great time.  Her daughter Caroline, and son-in-law John, are making sure she is fully indoctrinated in the culture of the south west!

The wind was gusting up to 35mph and we all were getting sand blasted by the end of the lesson but Jutta was even game to help feed the livestock after the ride.  We ended the evening with a toast of Ice Wine made in Missouri–yup—Missouri, who would have guessed, that was out of this world delicious!  Can life on the farm get any better than that!

Lessons in Western or English are given at Chile Acres at a cost of $25/hr for ages 4 years to 70 and up!!!

Riding Student Expresses Love of Horses

PuzzleKerry Ann and her sister Tia made a puzzle of Phoenix and her baby River for Jimmie and Celia and presented to them at Chile Acres last week at riding lessons.  Kerry Ann loves horses and has been riding for over a year.  She loves to come and help with the ranch work and is learning to train horses.  Her sister Tia comes out with her sometimes when she is able.  Jimmie and Celia are framing the picture and will put it in a place of honor in their home!

River Phoenix and His New Family

River Phoenix with his New FamilyMeet River Phoenix and his new family!  These lovely people took him home to their farm on Sunday.  His new name will be “Gorgeous”! since that is what they think of him. Here is what his new dad, Grady said when they got him home (it was his first time to ride in a trailer),

Just wanted to let you know River phoenix made it home safe and sound, he seems to fit right in.  I just wanted to say thank you again, he is gorgeous, and to let you know our email address so you can send pictures to us. “

We are sending all of his baby pictures to them and we are glad he has been sold to wonderful horse people.  He has new horse friend there now too.

Their good friends Tom and Kami came over the week before to meet Phoenix from an add they had seen on Dream Horse and knew he was the one for them.  Kami has horse photos as part of the family pics in her wallet–our kind of gal!  When they all came to get River they wanted to take Bubbles home too!  Of course, that was out of the question…

Jimmie and I both cried when he left–it is the hardest part of raising horses.  It makes us happy when great people end up with our babies.  River liked them right away when they came out and let their daughter hug him so we knew this was the right family!

Jimmie and I want to thank our special friends John and Caroline for their technical gifts and this web-site that has made sharing pictures so easy!  With out them Kami and Tom might not have seen our farm.
